We’ve seen this problem too many times. When an employee (or consultant) leaves his or her post, the company has to re-image the PC. Before re-imaging, the company requires a dump of all files on the PC’s drive and someone has to look through the files for valuable company information. A lot of times, employees and consultants store valuable and personal information onto their C: drives at work. Two years ago, porn pictures were found on a C: drive along with the employee’s resume.
We are always recommending our consultants to use portable USB drives to store personal information on. Well, now our recommendation is going to change. We are recommending them to store personal information online so they can get to it anywhere (in the world). This is better than carrying around a USB drive that one day, you may forget to remove it off the back of your PC at work or forget it on your night table at home.
Another use of offsite storage is when you retrieve personal email at work. Sometimes you want to download an image or attachment but don’t want to leave it on the company’s PC. This is an excellent place for you to store it.
